NAQT Northeast at Columbia consisted of two eight-team round robin
divisions, followed by segregation into three flights: upper, middle,
lower; teams in each flight played all other teams in the flight. NYU A and
Syracuse didn't show up, making it two seven-team round robin divisions.
The upper flight consisted of the top three from each division. The middle
flight consisted of the next two from each division, while the last flight
was made up of the final two teams in each division.
With only four Division II teams, a separate tournament was not run. All
teams were lumped together and the the Division II team that escaped the
quagmire with the least mauling from the other teams was declared the
champion.

I don't have full results for the divided-flight games, but I do know that
Princeton A finished 11-0 after the upper flight place while Princeton B
finished 8-3. Penn A, Yale A, and Williams A were all close behind. The
finals were a best-of-three series between the top two teams, with previous
head-to-head matches counting. So Princeton A's defeat of B in the upper
flight counted as a one-game lead. A won the first playoff game to win the
tournament.
I believe that the Division II teams were Princeton C, Williams B,
Brandeis, and Rutgers.
The University of Maryland A won NAQT's Mid-Atlantic Sectionals Saturday
at UMBC in Baltimore, Maryland. Maryland A (Mike Starsinic, Dave Hamilton,
Julie Singer, Willie Keller) defeated Virginia A (Anthony Airne, Brian
Hight, John Kenney, Steve Grey) in a best of three playoff. Maryland A ran
the gauntlet, going undefeated throughout the day. John Kenney led all
scorers, with Tim Young (George Washington A), John Nam (Maryland B), Ed
Cohn (Swarthmore), Julie Singer, Dave Hamilton, and Josh Miller
(Swarthmore) were all-stars. Teams from Maryland, Virginia, George
Washington, Swarthmore, Georgetown, Roanoke, and Johns Hopkins.
In Division II, Virginia C defeated Maryland D for the championship.
Virginia's Matt Brady was high scorer, while Minh Nguyen (Virginia) and
Chad Groft (Maryland) were all-stars.

D2 Second Place: Pittsburgh B
Virginia Tech made a serious run for the crown, having beaten Michigan
in the round-robin and then earning their berth to the final in a
half-round tiebreaker over Michigan as well. Michigan then had to
defeat Penn State A to get into the final. But Michigan won twice in
the final, and took the tournament.
Final Game 1: Michigan A 245, Virginia Tech A 190
Final Game 2: Michigan A 465, Virginia Tech A 240
We played divisions, followed by cross-division upper and lower brackets.
The playoff was in ladder form to give everyone two more games. Just in
case I misbalanced the brackets, 9th place could have moved as high as
7th. In the first round, not a single upset occurred, so I thought we
had it ordered corretly. Then, in the second round, only one team "held
serve".

Div. I: (16 teams)
1. Chicago A
2. Illinois A
3. Carleton A
4. Iowa State A
5. Minnesota
Div. II: (10 teams)
1. Chicago
2. Carleton
3. Northwestern
Chicago A seemed to dominate the field. They forfeited an early match
to ISU B due to some mixup over where they were supposed to be and
later lost one match legitimately -- by 5 points(?) to
Chicago B. Therefore they officially ended the round robin with two
losses, to Illinois' one, despite averaging 500-some points per game,
or something like that. Illinois, having lost only to Chicago, was thus
the top seed into playoffs, and was matched with 4th place Iowa State
in one semifinal, while second seed Chicago played #3
Carleton in the other semifinal. Chicago beat Illinois handily in the final.
