For the fourth time in as many competitions, Oxford University won the NAQT British Universities' Quiz Championship, losing only once during the tournament and defeating Trinity College, Cambridge, 500-335 in the final.
In a break with tradition, Oxford University chose to enter as a combined university team, instead of as individual colleges as they, London, and Cambridge have previously done. Despite this, Trinity College, Cambridge provided strong opposition, beating Oxford in the league stage before succumbing in the final and finishing as runners-up for the fourth consecutive year. The Oxford team was led by Ian Bayley and Dorjana Sirola, both of whom played on the Oxford team that finished 9th at the 2001 ICT. The Trinity team featured two players, Robin Bhattacharyya and Coulter George, from the Cambridge side that had finished 25th at the 2000 ICT.
The competition, held at the University of Cambridge on Saturday, April 21, featured a record 12 teams competing in a pooled round-robin, which was followed by a Super Six series, and concluding with a final featuring the top two teams.
