2018 National Championship T-Shirt Idea Contest
NAQT offers T-shirts to attendees at its Small School National Championship Tournament, Middle School National Championship Tournament, and High School National Championship Tournament. We are seeking design ideas for the T-shirts for our 2018 national championships.
No artistic ability is required! Just give us a description of your idea (and a sketch if you want, but that’s totally optional). Here are the shirts we used in 2017:
In terms of the textual descriptions we’re seeking, these would be described something like the following:
- “Old-timey Chicago gangsters holding buzzers, with the slogan ‘Buzz early, buzz often.’ The Chicago skyline from the gangster era.”
- “The Three Musketeers with buzzers, saying ‘All for the bonus, and one for the tossups.’”
- “Nighthawks, but the patrons have buzzers and the waiter is reading questions.”
We like shirt ideas that incorporate ideas from quiz bowl (whether the game itself, or topics often asked about) and/or the location of the tournament. To that end:
- The Small School National Championship Tournament will be near Chicago on April 27–29 (this shirt could also incorporate the idea of small schools)
- The Middle School National Championship Tournament will be near Chicago on May 11–13
- The High School National Championship Tournament will be in Atlanta on May 25–27
NAQT will pay $50 cash, or offer up to $75 worth of practice material of the winner’s choice, and send the winner a shirt in a size of their choice, for each idea we choose to use. Other details:
- Design ideas must be submitted by September 15, 2017.
- Anyone can enter, regardless of whether or how they are involved (or have been involved) in quiz bowl. Tell your creative friends who don’t play quiz bowl but sort of know what it is!
- You can submit as many ideas as you want.
- You can, but do not need to, specify that the idea is for a particular tournament (e.g. if it references the location).
- If there’s a way to integrate “2018 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament / Atlanta, Georgia / May 25–27” (or the other names, locations, and dates) into the design, great! (And please tell us about it.) If not, that can just go above, below, or to a side of the drawing.
- Design ideas should be workable in no more than three colors (one of which is probably black).
- NAQT’s artist will turn the ideas into drawings. We might consult with you during the process.
- We may choose any number of ideas, including ones to use in future years.
- You can, but do not need to, use the $50 as a credit for your team’s registration at any 2018 NAQT national championship.
- Ideas must not have been used on any other apparel or merchandise related to competitions of knowledge (to the best of submitters’ knowledge).
- Ideas we choose (and pay for) become the property of NAQT, may be modified or used in any media (not just T-shirts), and may not be used for any apparel or merchandise related to competitions of knowledge other than those produced by NAQT. Ideas we don’t choose remain the property of the submitter, and will not be shared other than among NAQT members and contractors.
Submit your ideas by September 15, 2017 to naqt@naqt.com. If you have any questions or comments, please send them to the same address.
Thanks in advance for your ideas! We’re looking forward to some great shirts.
