2002-2003 Community College Sectional Championship Hosts

National Academic Quiz Tournaments, LLC is pleased to announce that the 2002-2003 Community College Sectional Championship Tournaments (CC SCTs) will be held at these locations:

Sectional Date School Contact
Alabama 2/7 Snead State CC Scott, Vann
Florida 2/1 Valencia CC Chris Borglum
Georgia 2/8 Middle Georgia College Tom Deaton
Kansas 2/8 Cloud County CC Todd Leif

These tournaments are intended to be the principal means by which community colleges qualify for the 2003 ICT in order to compete for the NAQT Community College National Championship. Community colleges may also attend four-year Sectional Championship Tournaments but they will be treated the same as all other Divison II teams in terms of qualifying (namely, the top community college team may not receive an invitation at a four-year SCT if its overall finish is sufficiently low).

Just like at four-year SCTs, the winner of each CC SCT will automatically qualify for the ICT; additional teams from each CC SCT may also qualify, but that determination will be done on the basis of statistical comparisons across all sectionals so even the second-place team at a sectional may not qualify. Unlike at four-year SCTs, the host institution does not automatically qualify.

These tournaments are restricted to two-year colleges, junior colleges, and community colleges; Division II teams from four-year colleges must attend NAQT's four-year Sectional Championship Tournaments. An institution is allowed to send multiple teams. Despite the sectionals' names, teams may choose to attend any of the events, regardless of location. Each player may, of course, attend only a single Sectional.

All Community College Sectional Championship Tournaments will use NAQT's Invitational Series #34 so players planning on competing should make sure that they are not exposed to this set in advance. Other tournaments using this set are listed on the NAQT website.

Hosts will post more detailed information including schedules, fees, format, housing, and rosters closer to the date of the tournament. Schools should contact hosts directly to register for these tournaments, but should address other questions about the competition and preparing for it to naqt@naqt.com.
