Community College Championship Tournament

National Academic Quiz Tournaments is pleased to announce that starting with the 2008-2009 competition year, it will hold a separate national championship tournament to crown the best two-year quiz bowl team in North America.

NAQT has named a community college national champion since 2002, but that determination has been made as part of its overall Division II competition at its Intercollegiate Championship Tournament. The CCCT will be a tournament specifically for community colleges and will allow more such teams to compete for the championship each year.

Teams will qualify for the CCCT via Community College Sectional Championship Tournaments (CC SCTs) held nationwide on Saturday, January 24. The winner of each SCT will be invited to the championship along with additional teams based on a national comparison of their statistics (points scored, bonus conversion, etc.)

The inaugural national championship will take place on February 27-28, 2009 at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida.

The top six teams from the CCCT will qualify for the overall Division II collegiate championship that will continue to take place as part of the 2009 Intercollegiate Championship Tournament on April 3-4, 2009.

All two-year, junior, and community colleges are eligible to compete in NAQT's CC SCT and CCCT events.

NAQT will list the locations of the qualifying CC SCTs on its schedule as soon as they are available. Schools interested in hosting such tournaments should contact NAQT before September 30, 2009 (or after that date, if one hasn't yet been scheduled in their regions).

To register for one of the Community College Sectional Championship Tournaments, contact the tournament host directly. For more information about the events or for information about starting a team, please contact NAQT at naqt@naqt.com.
