Division II
Division II is the lower of the two echelons of play recognized by NAQT at the collegiate level. Division II is intended to provide new schools and new players with an arena in which they can compete against other developing teams. All NAQT Sectional Championship Tournaments (SCTs) as well as the Intercollegiate Championship Tournament (ICT) award distinct Division II championships. Students qualify to play in Division II if they meet the following requirements:
In the case of students at community colleges (or other two-year institutions), the third criterion does not apply, but the second criterion is lowered to three years of intercollegiate play. Community college players may play for a full three years regardless of whether their teams qualify for or attend the ICT in those years. Community college players that exhaust their Division II eligibility may still play in Division I, even if they are still attending a two-year institution. A team qualifies to play in Division II if all of its members do. In short, the policy is that an undergraduate retains Division II eligibilty for up to a maximum of four years, either until he or she is on a team that qualifies for the ICT or has twice played in SCTs on Division I teams. Students at two-year institutions may play Division II for up to three years. NAQT has a collection of Frequently Asked Questions about Eligibility. The NAQT website is maintained by Chad Kubicek
