2009 NAQT High School National Championship Results

Last year's runners-up Charter School of Wilmington (DE) claimed the 2009 NAQT High School National Championship by defeating Paul M. Dorman High School (Roebuck, SC) in the final by the score of 350-340. The championship match was both exciting and controversial, as Charter's Henry Gorman secured the title by answering the final tossup, but only after a close timing call by the moderator, NAQT President R. Robert Henztel, on whether the mandated two seconds after recognition was exceeded. An audio podcast of the entire final is available. This is the first national championship for Wilmington, while Dorman matched their 2003 squad for the highest finish in school history. State College (PA) Area High School finished third after topping Detroit Catholic Central High School (Novi, MI) in a final placement game.

In the Small School division, Ottawa Hills High School (Toledo, OH) knocked off the defending champions from Russell (KY) High School to claim their first Top Small School Award. Rappahannock County High School (Washington, VA) claimed the third-place trophy by defeating Vermillion (SD) High School in a placement game.

The final team standings for all teams that qualified for a trophy, as well as every Small School playoff team, are listed below. Complete team and individual standings and statistics for every game are also available. In addition, the tournament's official blog includes recaps of key games.
