2007-2008 Minnesota High School Quiz Bowl League

Congratulations to Eden Prairie (South Division) for winning the 37th championship of the Minnesota High School Quiz Bowl league. After a perfect 12-0 regular season, Eden Prairie convincingly defeated runner-up Orono (West Division) 685-275 in the final on Thursday, February 21, 2008.

Eden Prairie will now travel to Chicago over Memorial Day weekend to compete against 159 other teams from around the U.S. at the 2008 High School National Championship Tournament run by National Academic Quiz Tournaments.

The other teams that made the league playoffs were:

• Minnetonka (West Division), who lost to Eden Prairie in the semifinals but defeated Wayzata in the consolation match to take third place
• Wayzata (West Division), who lost to Orono in the semifinals and then to Minnetonka in the consolation match to take fourth place
• De La Salle (North Division), who lost to Orono in the quarterfinals
• St. Thomas Academy/Visitation (South Division), who lost to Wayzata in the quarterfinals
• Simley (East Division), who lost to Minnetonka in the quaterfinals
• St. Anthony Village (North Division), who lost to Eden Prairie in the quarterfinals
• Rosemount (East Division), who lost to De La Salle in the round of 16
• Chaska (South Division), who lost to Orono in the round of 16
• Benilde-St. Margaret's (North Division), who lost to Wayzata in the round of 16
• Irondale (East Division) who lost to St. Thomas/Visitation in the round of 16
• Armstrong (North Division), who lost to Minnetonka in the round of 16
• Edina (East Division), who lost to Simley in the round of 16
• St. Paul Central (East Division), who lost to St. Anthony Village in the round of 16
• St. Louis Park (West Division), who lost to Eden Prairie in the round of 16

It's interesting to note that three of the final four teams were from the Western Division; that must have been a very difficult bracket.
