The third annual Siouxper Bowl high school quiz bowl tournament was held on November 11, 2006, at the University of Sioux Falls under the direction of the university's Honors department and R. Robert Hentzel of National Academic Quiz Tournaments, LLC. The tournament was a qualifier for the 2007 NAQT High School National Championship which will be held Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.
Twenty-three teams representing 15 schools attended from three states (South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska). The teams played six preliminary games, after which the top 14 advanced to single elimination playoffs for the championship. The six preliminary games were randomly determined for each school with an attempt made to minimize matches between teams from the same school. Those six games were played over the course of seven rounds.
After the preliminary games the standings were as follows:
| Rank | Team | Record | PPTH |
| 1 | Greater Sioux Falls Home School Association A | 6-0 | 20.83 |
| 2 | Greater Sioux Falls Home School Association B | 6-0 | 11.29 |
| 3 | Brookings A | 5-1 | 17.25 |
| 4 | South Sioux City (NE) | 5-1 | 13.21 |
| 5 | Sioux City North (IA) | 5-1 | 12.42 |
| 6 | Roosevelt A | 5-1 | 12.08 |
| 7 | Brookings B | 5-1 | 10.62 |
| 8 | Brandon Valley A | 4-2 | 9.75 |
| 9 | Brandon Valley B | 4-2 | 9.17 |
| 10 | Emmetsburg B (IA) | 4-2 | 5.98 |
| 11 | Sioux City West (IA) | 3-3 | 7.50 |
| 12 | Harrisburg A | 2-4 | 6.10 |
| 13 | Central Lyon A (IA) | 2-4 | 6.08 |
| 14 | Central Lyon B (IA) | 2-4 | 6.08 |
| 15 | Homer (NE) | 2-4 | 5.58 |
| 16 | Harrisburg B | 2-4 | 5.12 |
| 17 | Estherville | 2-4 | 3.21 |
| 18 | Sioux City East (IA) | 1-5 | 6.29 |
| 19 | Stevens | 1-5 | 4.79 |
| 20 | Roosevelt B | 1-5 | 3.88 |
| 21 | Avon | 1-5 | 3.46 |
| 22 | Harrisburg C | 1-5 | 2.75 |
| 23 | Emmetsburg A (IA) | 0-6 | 1.33 |
In the above standings, teams with identical records were ordered by points-scored-per-tossup-heard (PPTH).
The top 14 teams advanced to the playoffs. This was determined first by win-loss record and then by points-per-tossup-heard (PPTH) after round 6 (that is, it did not include the round 7 preliminary games). This was done in the name of expediency, so the playoffs could be seeded and announced without having to wait for all of the round 7 data entry to complete.
The single-elimination playoff bracket can be downloaded in PDF format.
In the first round of the playoffs the top two teams (GSFHSA A and GSFHSA B) received byes. Additionally, Sioux City North defeated Sioux City West 230-60, South Sioux City took out Harrisburg A 225-100, Brandon Valley B upended Brandon Valley A 150-100, Roosevelt A beat Central Lyon B 200-25, Brookings B survived Emmetsburg B 190-75, and Brookings A torpedoed Central Lyon A 280-95.
In the quarterfinals, GSFHSA A lowered the boom on Brandon Valley B 355-60, GSFHSA B eked out a win over Brookings B 135-80, Roosevelt A handled South Sioux City 230-130, and Brookings A squeaked by Sioux City North 200-185.
In the semifinals, GSFHSA A hammered Roosevelt A 385-115 while Brookings A thumped GSFHSA B 360-105.
In the championship game, GSFHSA A defeated Brookings A 385-205.
In the third-place consolation game, Roosevelt A defeated GSFHSA B 275-180.
Four small, public schools (by NAQT's definition) made the playoffs: Emmetsburg B, Central Lyon A, Central Lyon B, and Harrisburg A. All were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, so there was to have been a playoff among them for the Top Small School title. Unfortunately, Central Lyon and Harrisburg had already left, so Emmetsburg was awarded the title.
By virtue of finishing in the top 15% of the field, two teams from the Greater Sioux Falls Home School Association, Brookings A, and Roosevelt A have earned berths in the 2007 High School National Championship. By virtue of winning the Top Small School award, Emmetsburg also received an invitation.
The tournament also recognized individual performances; the top eight scorers by tossup-points-scored-per-tossup-heard (PPTH) during the preliminary games were:
| Rank | Name | Team | Points per game |
| 1 | Nick Truelson | GSFHSA A | 96.67 |
| 2 | Evan Swan | South Sioux City | 90.00 |
| 3 | Andrew Bakke | Brandon Valley A | 64.17 |
| 4 | Josh Knust | Harrisburg B | 44.17 |
| 5 | Michael McLaughlin | GSFHSA B | 44.00 |
| 6 | Eric Nelson | Roosevelt A | 41.67 |
| 7 | Katerina Belkin | Sioux City North | 40.00 |
| 8 | John Hommes | Central Lyon A | 38.75 |
In addition, Zach Webb (the #15 scorer overall) of Harrisburg A received a trophy for being the top sophomore scorer at the tournament (32.00 PPG), and Michael McLaughlin (the #5 scorer overall!) of GSFHSA B received a trophy for being the top freshman scorer at the tournament.
