Experienced Staff

For the purposes of determining discounts at NAQT Sectional and National Championships, the following definitions of experienced staff will be applied:

An experienced moderator is one who has read at least twelve rounds of timed tournament play or thirty rounds of untimed tournament play. The moderator should average at least 21 NAQT-length tossups and bonuses in 18 minutes of play and preferably 23 or more. The moderator should not read so slowly so as to finish fewer than 20 tossups in a match. The moderator should have clear pronunciation, the ability to read pronunciation guides seamlessly as part of the question text, and should be very familiar with the official NAQT rules. Moderators must also be able to read and keep score if required, though NAQT and host institutions will make every effort to provide scorekeepers.

An experienced scorekeeper is one who has kept score for at least twelve rounds of tournament play, timed or untimed, and who can keep up with moderators who read as many as 26 tossup-bonus cycles in 18 minutes of play. The scorekeeper must also be able to tally running scores during play so as to be able to immediately report current scores at the half or at time-outs.
