Change in Packet Count for Regular Invitational Series

Starting with the 2016–17 competition year, NAQT will be reconfiguring its Introductory and Regular Invitational Series so that the standard size of both is 12 packets of 24 tossups and 24 bonuses each. Previously, Regular Invitational Series sets had 14 packets.

However, every Invitational Series (Regular and Introductory) will also be available in an alternate form consisting of 13 packets of 22 tossups and 22 bonuses. Each host may choose whether it wants the 12- or 13-packet version (and there is no extra charge for either).

The distribution, difficulty, and other parameters of the sets remain unchanged.

NAQT’s results database revealed that most tournaments did not use more than 12 packets, so we thought it better to reduce the number of (mostly unused!) questions we were providing rather than raise our prices; in addition, most of the tournaments using 13 rounds were already playing untimed, 20-question games, so we added the alternate, 13-packet arrangement to accommodate their needs.

If you have any questions about this change, please don’t hesitate to contact NAQT at hosting@naqt.com or by phone at 888‑411‑6278 (“NAQT”).
