MNHSQB Board of Directors

High-level guidance and strategic planning for the Minnesota High School Quiz Bowl league are handled by its board of directors. The board consists of former players, former coaches, and former league administrators with experience in all aspects of quiz bowl, both local and national.

Kirk Walton (board member since 2008)
Kirk is a 1995 graduate of Chaska High School, where he was part of the 1995 Knowledge Bowl State Champion and part of Chaska's first ever Lake Conference Championship in any sport / activity (quiz bowl). He went on to coach the Eden Prairie Academic Teams from 2004 to 2008, during which time Eden Prairie won three straight NAQT State Championships (2006, 2007, 2008) and finished 7th at the NAQT High School National Championship in 2008. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1999. He lettered in swimming six years in high school and four years in college. He lives with wife Kate, son Brady, and daughter Allie in Chanhassen.

Brian Weikle (board member since 2008)
Brian has been involved with quiz bowl as a player, coach, and volunteer for over 20 years. As a player, he helped the University of Minnesota to a national championship in 1989 and is still active on the "trash" (pop culture and sports questions) circuit. The former coach of his alma mater, Roseville Area High School (Roseville, MN), he can freqently be found moderating at local high school and college quiz bowl tournaments. Brian and his wife live in Robbinsdale.
