2022 Online Sectional Championship Tournament
Introduction
NAQT will host a Sectional Championship Tournament (SCT) online on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
This tournament is intended for teams for which distance, quarantine, or health concerns make attending an in-person tournament difficult or unwise. NAQT encourages teams to give preference to local, in-person hosts if they are able.
This tournament (along with the other, in-person SCTs) is a qualifier for the 2022 Intercollegiate Championship Tournament, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare (Rosemont, Illinois, near Chicago) on Friday–Saturday, April 1–2.
Schedule
The details of the schedule will be determined closer to the tournament (based on the field size and other factors). Teams should expect to be ready by 8:45 a.m. Central time and playing until possibly as late as 5:00 p.m. There will be a break for lunch.
Online Quiz Bowl
Participants should be sure to read NAQT’s guide to online quiz bowl tournaments. Everyone should be sure to read the overview of online quiz bowl, players should be sure to read the page for players, and coaches should be sure to read the page for coaches. Reading the remainder of the guide is optional.
Gameplay will take place on Zoom. Buzzing will take place via BuzzIn.Live.
The Integrity Policy for Online National Championships will apply (even though this tournament is not a national championship). This document includes several rules regarding player behavior. Coaches and players must familiarize themselves with it.
Rules
The following rules apply to this tournament:
- NAQT Rules for gameplay (including the use of untimed 11–tossup-bonus-cycle halves)
- Rules modifications for online quiz bowl
- Integrity Policy regarding players being visible on camera
- The College Eligibility Rules (dual-enrolled players should be particularly careful about the eligibility rules); see also the Collegiate Eligibility FAQs
- The Undergraduate Eligibility Rules for Undergraduate teams (within Division I)
- The Division II Eligibility Rules for Division II teams
Format
The tournament format will be determined later, based on the number of teams that register. Teams will be guaranteed at least seven games.
Provided that at least four teams register for each, Division I and Division II teams will play separately.
Registration
The registration fee is $145 for the first team from a school and $120 for each subsequent team.
There is a $20 discount for teams from schools that neither attended nor hosted a Sectional Championship Tournament (two- or four-year), the Intercollegiate Championship Tournament, or the Community College Championship Tournament in 2020 or 2021.
There is a $40 discount for providing a qualified staff member (subject to NAQT’s approval).
Qualification for the Intercollegiate Championship Tournament
Teams from this and other Sectional Championship Tournaments will qualify for the 2022 Intercollegiate Championship Tournament (ICT) according to the qualification rules. The ICT will be held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare (Rosemont, Illinois, near Chicago) on Friday–Saturday, April 1–2.
